Urban and rural users pay same grid fees in Germany for the first time

Grid fees for users in urban and in rural areas of Germany have, for the first time, been brought to similar levels, according to price comparison website Verivox. After a nine percent drop in fees for electricity customers in rural areas at the turn of the year, the charges for grid operation have converged with those in more densely populated areas. In 2024, rural fees were still more than ten percent higher. The average three-person household in Germany thus paid about 420 euros in grid fees in cities and 464 euros in the countryside.
